What does the future hold for mobility platforms?
The topics MaaS, mobility platform and National Access Point are omnipresent in the mobility industry and are regarded in many places as the trends of the future and as solutions to various mobility problems. Therefore, a working group was formed under the organization of its-ch to deal in detail with these topics. The working group consisted of honorary representatives of the interests of public transport, road transport, engineers, consultants, traffic and spatial planners. As deputy working group leader, Fabio Walti of Eraneos made a significant contribution to the organisation as well as to the formation of professional opinion.
The final report of the "Mobility Platforms" working group included fourteen expert interviews and the opinions of 200 participants in an online survey.
The report begins with an analysis of the initial situation, identifying the various stakeholders and their needs. Afterwards, the well-known mobility mediators will be highlighted. It becomes clear that there is little difference between today's mobility platforms. In addition, despite the categorization carried out, it remains difficult to keep track of the many mobility offers in Switzerland. In the working group's view, the offers have so far been used rather cautiously. The reasons for this are only partially understood and need to be discussed further. In addition, it is still difficult to combine several modes of transport. This often requires several systems or apps, so that users feel overwhelmed and there is a high entry hurdle.
In order to promote intermodal transport, the working group proposes setting up a "metaplatform" for aggregating the necessary mobility data. Such a metaplatform does not have a customer interface, but makes the data available to companies and organisations that develop and operate innovative offers for mobility users. The metaplatform can also serve as a "national access point" (NAP) for data exchange with EU countries. The working group recommends developing the governance of the metaplatform in a "public-private partnership" in order to guarantee both the achievement of economic goals and rapid economic development.
