Will the Corona Tunnel end with Swiss mass vaccination?
The largest Swiss vaccination campaign ever has started and the FOPH is confident that it will bring the coronavirus under control in the foreseeable future. To date, 314,200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Switzerland. This corresponds to a vaccination rate of 5.6% in the two highest risk groups. But what will happen next? Is there any sign of an end to the pandemic and the numerous restrictions on the population? Ask yourself no longer!

You can find concrete answers to these questions by clicking on AWK Group's new web app. The goal of our data analysts was to provide all Swiss* people with a practical and user-friendly tool to follow the vaccination of the Swiss population live. The app provides a constantly updated overview of the number of vaccine doses administered and the vaccination status achieved by the Swiss population in percentage terms with regard to the vaccination coverage of the two highest risk groups as well as the herd immunity targeted in the long term. This is achieved when around 80% of the population has been vaccinated.

If you want to know the current vaccination coverage in your canton of residence, you can find accurate and up-to-date information in the corresponding section, which covers all cantons in Switzerland. The app also provides interesting facts and figures on the vaccine doses ordered and available, as well as the vaccines approved in Switzerland.

But when will the return to normality take place? It is impossible to predict exactly. Too many factors are still unknown. Nevertheless, we dare to make daily forecasts as to when the pandemic in Switzerland could be over in purely mathematical terms. We assume that the pandemic will be over when the two most critical risk groups have been completely vaccinated. We use the average number of vaccinations in the last 7 days as the basis for our calculation. Based on this number we calculate how many days it will take until the affected 2,353,410 people have received their two vaccine doses. Detailed information on the risk groups and the recommendations issued by the FOPH on the order in which the different groups of the Swiss population should be vaccinated can be found in our web app under "Priority Groups".
