Rethinking mobility - AWK thinks with you

AWK holds Open Session at the first national mobility conference of the ARE
The Federal Office for Spatial Development (ARE) organised the first national mobility conference on 26 August, attracting almost 300 mobility enthusiasts from a wide range of sectors to the Paul Klee Zentrum in Berne. After a welcoming address by Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga, keynote speeches and panel discussions gave participants an insight into what the mobility industry is currently most interested in and what we can expect in the short and medium term. Over the course of the day, a total of 35 open sessions took place, in which participants were able to find out about a wide variety of mobility topics and discuss solutions to current challenges together with the other participants.

In the Open Session "Small and medium-sized municipalities and cities: the basis of the Smart Society in Switzerland", organized by AWK, we discussed with the visitors how far our cities and municipalities already are in the use of innovative solutions - especially in mobility. We also discussed with the visitors where they see the biggest hurdles in the further development of their city or municipality and Switzerland towards a Smart Society.

The discussions showed a familiar picture: a lot is being initiated and tried out, but the big challenge is coordinating the various projects and aligning them along a jointly agreed strategy. In addition, supra-regional cooperation between cities and municipalities was also a much discussed topic. It does not make sense for us in Switzerland to try out every idea several times - rather, it makes sense to learn from each other, to join forces, to work together across organisational boundaries and to make Switzerland a "smart society" together.
