The exploitation of growth potential through product-related and geographical expansions, as well as the need to participate as an active member in industry consolidations, mean that company takeovers are once again a top topic on the agendas of executive boards. However, such takeovers are often opportunistic in nature. The merger drivers as well as the merger targets, which are regarded as indicators for the successful integration of a takeover, are often not fully developed, especially in such cases.
